Keith, take this with a grain of salt but I truly feel that BaT was the wrong venue for that car. As a buyer, you have one week to 1 see the listing, 2 go to inspect it, 3 have the funds to close the deal, 4 have the physical space for it. That's a lot of boxes to check and while there are those who can move that quickly, most buyers need more time to get their ducks in a row.The 1965 Fuel Injected Five-Star Bowtie blue/blue coupe did not meet reserve at $99,000 today on BaT. There were very few bids in the closing hours. I think that particular car is about as good as it gets. I was surprised at the apparent lack of interest. Why didn't it sell? Soft market? Wrong venue? Unrestored cars falling out of favor? Something else?
What are your thoughts?
Here is an example, there was a 5 star bowtie, BG Benchmark 67 BB convertible about a year ago listed there. It only bid to 200 and there were those who asked the same questions that you did. I knew the seller of that car and he told me that he was able to sell the car a couple of weeks later for a 100K more than the high bid on BaT. The buyer needed time to get the $ together. Bottom line is cars such as those will always be in demand. That is one thing the live auctions do much better job at than BaT and that is the advance marketing that their cars receive vs none that BaT receives.- Top
