Favor on fuel pump date code interpretation

So I have been offered a fuel pump with the ID below but I am travelling all week and no access to my JG. Anyone know what the date code below translates to?

Re: Favor on fuel pump date code interpretation

    Keith,

According to my 5th ed '70-'72 JG, all 1970 pumps had a two letter code for the month and year, while '71 & '72 have a Julian date code but the year code is not shown. Don't know about the '68 or '69 pumps.

"251" sounds like a Julian date for September.

Note that the "W" makes it a much later service replacement.
      I would expect H for 1968, I for 1969, J for 1970

Re: Favor on fuel pump date code interpretation

Keith...you're well into the 80's with that date code. Here is a page from a TIMJG...well it wouldn't let upload a single freakin page but here it is.

        13. FUEL PUMP
The upper body of fuel pumps are die-cast aluminum with a stamped-steel gold-irradiate lower extension crimped to the upper body. The upper body has a smooth die-cast look not a media-blasted finish. Near the fulcrum for the lever, the AC logo is cast into the narrow supporting portion. (See Fig. M 13.0)

The fuel-pump flange has a model stamp on the rear underside of its base (the flange that bolts to the engine). All fuel pumps use a Julian date code (three digits), followed by the last five digits of the part number. A letter year is used for the calendar year of pump assembly. A pump with the code 117S41240 is April 27, 1977 date code. (Fig. M 13.1 A fuel pump installed on a 1977-built in 1976, is expected to show a 1976-year code. Table 16 lists part numbers by model year.

The pump attaches to the engine by two zinc-plated indented hex-head bolts with integral split-ring lock washers. One bolt is 7/16" hex and another is 9/16."

A natural steel unpainted plate is between the fuel pump and engine block. It connects to the block by two zinc-plated indented hex-head screws with integral external star washers. Original gaskets under the fuel pump and plate are tan to dark brown. (See Fig. M 13.3) The date codes of reproduction and service-replacement pumps are stamped in a different location and the die-cast finish is not typical factory production.

I see uploading the table distorted the columns.

Re: Favor on fuel pump date code interpretation

Is it possible that a fuel pump built in 1971 could have the Julian date and year stamped on it? The fuel pump on my early build 72 LT-1 is stamped 162140956 and that date would about right for the pump.
            Thanks.

              I would bet it's 162L if you have a very late 1971

My curiosity got the best of me so I Googled the 40658 and up popped this offer on eBay for pump, dated for a 68-69 Corvette. Date code configuration must be different for those two years...it may be a 327 vs. 350 thing.

The pump appears to be 172H40658

That would be the 172nd day of 1968, which fits. I'm not sure what you're seeing that's different?
                  June 20, 1968 assUming it's a 172.

                    Patrick,

I believe you’re correct. Would this date work for 72 LT-1 built 8/26/71?
