Finding original owner information--the lucky way

I have been working on a 71 LS6 coupe for a better part of a year. Great body, frame, birdcage, drivetrain, but nothing electrical worked. I lifted the top dash to find nothing with black vinyl wrap, and several wires changing colors three times with butt splices. So I removed the dash top to do the wiring. Car was sold new at Bruce Brown Chevrolet-Olds in Ennis, TX. Per an owner history that came with the car, I am owner 12. Owners 2-11 were documented, but no idea who was original owner. Under the dash top I found what I thought initially was a wad of gum, then realized it was a wadded up piece of paper. I unfolded it, and realized that the original owner was Bruce Brown II, the dealers son. Pictures included. For some reason the last one rotated 90 counterclockwise on me. And duplicated. Date of April 18, 1974 is on library receipt. Sorry

To clarify, you found a library book receipt dated 1974 under the dash with a name you recognize as the new car dealer's son. From this, you deduce he is the car's first owner. Is that correct?

Sounds like the makings of a Seinfeld episode to me.

Beware of the librarian! She's still looking for the book to be returned and to collect it's overdue dues!

          Mike,

Please read Rich Mozzetta's thread on why photos rotate and how to solve it.

Why in the world...? Do you think it was used to silence a rattle or something?
That the college student of the dealership's owner had the car for a period of time certainly sounds plausible that he or dad was the original owner.

That must be it! Junior fixed a rattle by stuffing his library receipts under the dash.

What a great story, Mike. I'm sure the dealership used similar repair methods on other new cars..........
