    Re: C6 battery disconnect ?

I use the "Knife Blade " style. The same as on all my C3ss. Access is tight, but doable. I prefer the knife blade because unlike the Green knob it has plenty of contact area, and having spent my entire working career in the electrical energy field I am trained to see an air gap for safety reasons, That is not much of an issue at 12 volts, but all of my career I have worked with much higher voltage (like add three zeros and up to 3/4 of a million volts).

I forgot to add: My C6 is a Z06 and the battery is in the rear of the car. I am not sure about access to the front mounted battery in C6s without the dry sump oil system.

This is the one I use on earlier cars:

Having said that, I believe that there are some "more modern" ones that allow a bit of current so you don't lose settings on a C6.

My C6 (2008 Z06) only loses the side window memory when the battery is disconnected. Re-indexing the side windows is a piece of cake. No big deal.

I have been told the C5s are the cars that require a more complex re-learning process when the battery is disconnected, but I have no experience there.

Need to open this one again.

I took the C6 to Ontario for the Regional. The Battery Disconnect was waived, that was good.

I had the guillotine switch with me, but no room to install. Got home and today tried two of the green knob style. There is plenty of room for that style but the stock battery cable will not tighten to the green know switch.

Is there a different/better green know switch just for C6's. Anyone use the black knob style.

                Thanks

Harry, Which battery terminal won't tighten up, the pos or neg? Those knob types are made for the negative.

Ok, so the problem you're likely having is due to the special clamp teardrop keeper, nut & stud. I've had the same problem even getting a good tight clamp to the negative battery terminal.

The unique teardrop keeper may be broken. Remove the 10MM special beveled nut. See if the teardrop keeper is cracked. Like this....(Neg same style)

If it is you'll have to replace it.

                      E.G. Here

If it's ok, may be just the clamp itself needs a squeeze. With the clamp removed from the terminal and nut removed, using needle nose pliers try to compress the open ends of the clamp a bit. Reassemble and retry.

                        Re: C6 battery disconnect ?

Rich, It tightens correctly on the battery post. It will not tighten correctly on the battery disconnect switch. I think it's the switch. Looks as if the post on the switch is too thin.

Just looked at the switch, the post is not tapered like the battery post. Think that's the problem.

                        I'll play with it tomorrow.

I have the knife blade typr switch on My 2008 since the car was new. No problem. Somethings wrong. When the switch is open so is the door of the battery compartment on my Z06. Maybe Zo6 is the difference.

Terry, I do not have enough room under the hood to install the knife blade. I'm looking to install the knob style. In the attached picture, the area in red (switch post) is too thin to allow the stock cable to tighten on it. The stock cable does attach to the battery post correctly.

Harry look closely at that teardrop keeper, it may be deformed not cracked.

But yes your knob switch may just be a kinky off-shore unit using metric specs. I'd think battery posts use a worldwide standard but who knows these days.

Terry I recall when I changed the battery on a friend's Will Cooksey Z06 it had the same funky terminal clamps as my base 07 coupe.
