Yes, Gary... if you recall, I was the one that sent you that 1968 AIM page.
What I'm referencing is the 1964 AIM REVISION... someone ordered that wiring update.
Unfortunately, my 1964 copy is hole punched directly on the revision date.
I'd guess itz Aug or Sept of 63... wishing, but doubtful anyone has that specific ECR.

You're correct, there are no reverse rotation distributors but there are most certainly reverse rotation engines, mostly in marine use.The distributor still rotates CW (so the oil pump is driven in the correct direction) but the firing order of a reverse rotation engine is reversed.
Jack's "1964" pic depicts the correct firing order and plug wire placement for a reverse rotation engine. The distributor still turns clockwise.
I've worked on dozens of reverse rotation marine engines. The firing order is 1-2-7-5-6-3-4-8. Rather than memorize the reverse firing order, I just use the 'regular' and run it CCW around the cap. Like Jack's picture.
Chris-Craft was a major customer for Chevrolet marine engines and began producing large numbers of twin engine cruisers in the early 60s. The twin installations typically used one standard rotation and one reverse rotation engine. I wonder if the reverse engine firing order drawing was produced for this configuration, but erroneously was incorporated into Corvette documentation? Just a thought.- Top
