C2 Inner Fender - Upper surround Seam Paint?

Just a quick question regarding the "filler" in the gap between the inner fender and upper hood surround. Should that filler be painted the same as the inner fender or should it be body color? I've seen it both ways on many cars over the years. I'm assuming it should be fender color (satin black).See picture below - the adhesive filler shown between the red arrorws.

I know in some cars the filler space is almost negligible, but others seem to show anywhere from a 1/4 to 1/2 inch or more adhesive filler, typically leveled with factory file marks. Thanks for any responses!

Body color White, mostly filed away on my original paint 64.

Thanks, Don. That's very helpful. My 63 convertible happens to be black, but I wanted to get a the correct black on the seam.

I've seen a difference between AO Smith bodies and St. Louis bodies in that area.
