    1960 Paint

I purchased the attached pages from a Du Pont paint sample book. I wanted to see how close my new Sateen Silver paint was to the original color. Do you think the paint samples are very close to the GM formulas assuming they were not exposed to much light ? Do we know which manufacturers supplied paint to GM in the 60's ?

Mark, TCP Global has a great reference area in their

    autocolorlibrary link for 1960

    HERE

You can download the original data sheets from there too which show original suppliers. Note they have acrylic lacquer also in their selection drop downs. Click on "Color Chips Page 1"... Shows....

Your 1953 - 1967 NCRS Spec Guide also shows who made the paint for GM.

      Dupont was the supplier.
Those look like the color book pages in the paint store, I've got a number of them.
Their accuracy depends on the environment used and stored in.
You can take a little meguires #7 and apply it to the sample and then buff it back off or just past wax the sample and lightly buff it to give it more gloss so you have similar sheens to look at.
If your car is original paint I'd bet it is pretty close in the door jambs and under the deck lid.

I've got a 1971 Dealer Album and also have a 71 original paint brandshatch green car... the sample matches my car.

FWIW - I used the dealer album to scan in 1971 Warbonnet Yellow to paint another member's car, I sent the samples to John Ballard for approval, and he said straight off the scan it was remarkably close, I believe we dropped a few (3-4) more percent of the metal flake and that was about it.

Thank you James and Rich. Very helpful. My car was repainted and the new paint is pretty close to the paint sample.

Ahhh, Now we'll need to see photos of your '60. I had a '59 for 35 years and miss seeing it. I love the 58-60 styling features.

Here are photos after paint. We left some orange peel on some of the rear and front lower sections and dulled down the door jambs.Body 9_30_19.jpgBody May 2021.jpg

WOW Mark that's gorgeous! Very nice with the white coves too.

It's going to look awesome with all that chrome coming too!

Mine was white with silver coves, opposite combo.
