    1967 L79 327/ 350 hp oil pan

I am new to the community and have tried to search the achieves with no luck. Or I am searching wrong. I am trying to figure out what oil pan is correct for my car. It is a factory L79 car with no power steering. I have found different opinions on a 6 qt vs 5 qt system. I am wanting what would have come original on my car. It was born Jan 19th 67.
    Thanks
    Troy

Troy, Welcome. I have an original 1967 L79 Coupe. No P/S but with A/C. Engine code HT.
Below is 2 photos of the oil pan. I believe it is called a 5-quart. The 6-quart pan would have a longer sump.

The two C2 small block oil pans have four and five quart capacities, respectively. Add one quart for the OE type cartridge oil filter and you have five and six quart oil SYSTEMS!

All C2 mechanical lifter small blocks carried the five quart pan, which precluded the installation of the steering damper used with manual steering four quart pan engines and also prevented the power steering option because the hydraulic boost cylinder was installed in the same location as the damper on manual steering cars.

It's always been my understanding that very early '65 L-79s had five quart pans, but a four quart pan was substituted to allow the power steering option.

The four quart pan has a deep section that extends about half the overall length of the pan. The five quart pan deep section extends about three-quarters the overall length, so they are easy to identify and distinguish.

My engine code is also HT. So it looks like a 5quart ( no trap door or wind age tray ) is correct? Everything I have see so far 6 quart is 63-65 high performance.

Thanks Duke. I should have been more clear in my response. I should have said my L79 oil pan is a 5-Quart including a filter.

Or you can just say "four quart pan", which is the specified capacity of the pan, and five quart system with the cartridge type oil filter. The later PF25 spin on filters only held about one-half quart.

The problem with "pan capacity" is that the "4 quart" pan has a capacity MUCH greater than 4 quarts and the "5 quart" pan has a capacity MUCH greater than 5 quarts. Of course, they do have a 4 quart and 5 quart capacity at the "full" level but that level is nowhere marked or indicated on the pan.

I've always gone by what the owner's manuals say... depending on engine option, oil change without filter is either 4 or 5 quarts, or 5 or 6 if a filter change is included for C2 small blocks with the OE type cartridge filter.
