You will need to select the correct driven gear based on your rear end ratio.
The early gear and fitting is on the left.

Re: 1954 speedo gear needed
I misspoke about the gear configurations. The earliest PG had a different gear fitting and speedo gear. The PN appeared to have changed for 53-55, and 55-57. Here is the information from the 1929-57 master catalog.
50-54 Pass w/ PG, 53-55 Corv 6 cyl 39-11 gears (3.55) 3704230
55-57 Pass, Corv, w/AT, 21 teeth red 3708142
I found this photo from Jim Lockwood. The fitting screws into the tranmission in those earliest years.
The long red 21 tooth gear is readily available from several sources. Check your fitting and select according to that. The short fitting on the right will not work in the early transmissions. Neither work in the transmissions with screw-in fittings.Attached Files- Top

Re: 1954 speedo gear needed
Thank you once again, Joe! You gave me a lot of info. In spring I'll remove the fitting to see what I have. I've heard that finding the gear for the 6 cyl. 1954 is almost impossible. It seems that no one repo's the part.- Top
