I am interested in your opinions regarding some repairs I've made to my rear LH wheel well splash shield. When I started the repair, I was just going to remove all the excessive vette bond that was present on the rear facing side of the LH rear splash shield. Once I got the old vette bond off, I discovered why they globbed on the vette bond. It was done to cover a large crack in the splash shield. Car was hit in the rear at some point in the past, so my assumption is this was done as part of the previous body damage and repairs. I decided to replace the LH rear splash shield due to the damage rather than fiberglass over (cover) a previous repair and then use gel coat tint in the resin to match the original color of the splash shield and rear quarter panel.
Here's my question. I applied a bead of SEM 39747 Dual-Mix Multi-Purpose fiberglass panel adhesive to the bonding strip. I had a really nice clean finish where the bonding strip attached to the quarter panel and I am regretting that I did not just leave it alone. I got over zealous and decided to go back over the rear seam and add a bead of the adhesive to the rear edge of the bonding strip. Not sure I like it. The adhesive is black and really sticks out in my opinion. I can't decide now if I should go back over the seam area and try to remove as much of the black adhesive from the edge of the seam as I can, using my Dremel and attachments. Got really stupid and did the RH rear splash shield too thinking they should at least match.
Do you think I should fix it? Or does the repair look okay to you?
Sorry about the orientation of the pics, not sure how to correct it so they display in portrait. Pics were in portrait on my phone and on my PC but they change to horizontal when I upload the pics here?
