Re: Identify C1 metallic brake shoes
I checked my 2/77 P & A catalog and they only list one C1 metallic shoe set, 3794194. Utilization, front, rear or both is a little vague, but the book specifically states that they are NOT for the HD brake option, so they are replacements for RPO 686 option.
I'm sure Joe Lucia will be able to tell you exactly what you have.

Re: Identify C1 metallic brake shoes
These are for the HD system not the 686 option. The part numbers changed over the years due to changes in the friction material. The early '63 HD system that was part of the Z-06 package were poor performers and Chevrolet quickly released new linings with different friction material composition, but the race teams were never satisfied with the performance.George------

The Washburn team (Santa Barbara, CA) was so frustrated with the production Z-06 Corvette that they finally modified it beyond the production class rules to run in the C-Modified class, and the team notes that I've seen indicate that they ended up with what was basically the J-65 system before they were reasonably satisfied with brake performance.
No doubt the disk brake system was the best thing for Corvette racers since the '57 RPO 684 package.

Re: Identify C1 metallic brake shoes
Bob------
Yes, the 1962 edition of the P&A catalog does specify that the GM #3798312 is applicable to 1962 with HD brakes for the rear brakes (I have the 1962 edition, too). However, every subsequent edition of the catalog does not specify "with HD brakes". Generally, mistakes are corrected in later editions of the catalog and not created in later editions.
The information I provided above comes from a 1965 edition of the catalog but is essentially the same in 1963 and 64 editions. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
