    Rear Shocks for C1 cars

I have a 56 and was trying to get Delco Rear Gas Shocks and the number for them for 56 is no longer available but the shocks for 60-62 are. They look identical and I notice most suppliers list shocks for 56-62. the deco number I have is 520-369 and is a good number with GM. Will these work on a 56.

    Thanks
    Sheldon

The correct shocks for your car are as follows:

    front:

    ACDelco 520-284 aka GM #88946129

    rear:

    ACDelco 520-297 aka GM #88946142

The 520-369 are for later C1 models

Keep in mind that Delco has not manufactured shock absorbers in MANY years. Current Delco shocks, especially for older applications, are manufactured by outside suppliers to GM. For shocks, most notably Monroe and Arvin-Meritor.

The 520-297 for the rear are discontinued now. Does anyone know what the Monroe number would be for the equivalent?

            Monroe 5818.

However, there's a set of 520-297 on eBay right now for a very reasonable price.

Sheldon, just out of curiosity, do you know if the shocks you bought are the 90-10 rebound shocks like original, or are they the normal gas 50-50 shocks? The spec sheet in your attachment does not say what the ratio is, but I suspect they are probably are 50-50.

I know spiral are nowhere to be found.

My car is a driver and last year I bought regular gas Monroe's from NAPA. But to be honest with you, I cannot tell the difference. However, the ones I removed were not original, so I have no reference to OEM shocks to compare them to.

I don't know what the rebound is, but I assume they are the 50/50 gas shocks.
