      Tim,
Thank you for "validating" my thoughts. Thought I was slipping there a bit.
Have a blessed New Year, my friend.

I was not aware of that connection. That answers my question. I learned something new on the last day of 2023. Thank you.

What you learned is that these C2-centric documents only relate to pre 1973 production documents. The Ident # is replaced by the VIN sequence in 1973 with the GMAD manifest. George Hunts query was related to 73 while the thread drifts to C2 period documents.

So, the only way to get your 1973 Corvette Validated by NCRS is to have the GMAD manifest document. What a shame. What Tim Gillmore is telling me is, the NCRS Rule Book requires you to have the actual manifest document off the gas tank, send it to NCRS Document Validation Services for $110 to confirm its an original, and NCRS will then tie it to a GM shipping report to “Validate” the car is legit, as built Corvette when leaving the factory in St. Louis.
George, you make a significant insight...the rather larger issue is that we have a C2-centric organization that is unable to recognize that production/sales documents changed in the 70s. that is why your discussion thread is peppered with C2-centric data. The Ident number was replaced in 73 with the VIN sequence number but that is not understood. [/quote]

That requirement or rule needs to be revisited since shipping reports are out the window for 1973 and GM has no production work sheets detailing the options on a Corvette by Vin number for 1973. A shipping report doesn’t include the optional equipment ordered. All you can hope for is finding the manifest on the gas tank or somewhere in the car to tie all the options together. Yes, having the manifest can do that and it’s the icing on the cake for documentation.
You're absolutely correct. These "validation document" services need to be updated to reflect rather dramatic changes in late model C3 documentation...that I might added were used into C4 and later generations. I'll bet everyone of these C2ers have a C5-C8 Corvette with a buildsheet either framed, etched in wood or marble. All of which stemmed from the rather significant production document changes in the 70s.

The validation of a car just seems to be a benefit when selling it? I would think that certification of the Corvette when being judged; Operations, Mechanical, Interior, Exterior, Chassis are what makes the car legit. Or do you need it to be Validated by NCRS for a Top Flight award?
What makes it legit is the original production documentation. The NCRS judging process only approximates the legitimacy of a production process and that is subject to the team's product knowledge of that particular year and its rolling production changes.
