Looking at the most recent Driveline it has come to my attention that there are no regional events scheduled in the Midwest in 2024 and 2025. From past experiences I know that there has been large attendance and participation at events that have been held in states like Indiana and Michigan. In addition, As I believe the Charleston South Carolina national will be incredible in 2025 the spirit of rotating the nationals from coast to coast and then some thing in the Midwest is not being followed. It has been discussed on this forum the difficulties and expenses associated with getting these cars to events. I understand that a lot goes into a regional meet and there needs to be a proper venue but having the Texas and Florida regional every year really restricts the ability to have events in other parts of the country. I appreciate the efforts of all the volunteers.

Re: Has the Midwest been forgotten? No Regionals
Two reasons:
1. Cost.
2. Volunteers.
The costs of venues have risen dramatically post-COVID, in tune with the increased cost of hotels, restaurants, etc. The sponsor dollars haven't gone up and, in fact, have gone down. I would not be surprised to see the return of outdoor Regionals despite the memory of the Bowling Green hailstorm, as we can't afford indoor ones anymore without very expensive registrations. If in doubt see the note at the top of the page regarding the loss of the Greenville SC Regional.
Raise the registration price and make the volunteers pay to attend, and you get fewer of them. We have said locally that if we were to do another Regional we would anticipate allowing volunteers to attend for free.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

All those Iowa members will be crushed to find they aren't included in the Midwest...

When Ken Sleeper was still with us, the IN chapter discussed having an annual regional, similar to FL and TX. We would have targeted April or May to improve travel weather. Ken had good connections for venue and lunch pricing. But we were never able to get it past the discussion phase.B.D.

Keith
Texas will be glad to give you our slot for a regional. Lots of work and costs keep going up. Our treasurer is losing his hair worrying about paying for it every year.

Bob, as you know, the Lone Star Regional is my all time favorite regional. Nothing like it anywhere.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Has the Midwest been forgotten? No Regionals
All of what has been written about costs, volunteers and sponsors is true. Beyond that, a Chapter needs to step up and volunteer to hold the Regional. Meaning, if a Chapter in your area does not step up, then you will not have a Regional.

Agreed. Also, Frisco makes sense because of its central location and the tons of Corvettes around here. It would be interesting to have a national Corvette census to confirm, but certainly no shortage of cars in and around Texas.Mark Edmondson

Re: Has the Midwest been forgotten? No Regionals
Harry hit the nail on the head. It takes LOTS of volunteers to work a regional and make it successful. The work does not just start the Thursday of the event. Our folks work for months getting ready.

Re: Has the Midwest been forgotten? No Regionals
Harry and Bob are absolutely correct. That is why the St. Louis and Kansas City Chapters have joined to host a regional in Springfield, MO, in July 2025. We are partnering the experience and resources of two active Top Flight chapters to plan a great mid-western event. Although we are still 17 months out, a working group from the two chapters has been meeting monthly by Zoom. Tonight we spent over an hour discussing our initial draft budget that Joan Burnett crafted based on our early planning and her experience in chairing both regional and national NCRS events over many years. The University Plaza Hotel and the 45,000 square foot Springfield Expo Center are contracted and we are already planning, from marketing to menues. The GTO Club of America is hosting their national event at the same venue this June.
It is indeed a lot of work to prepare a successful event, but the members of our two Chapters are really looking forward to delivering the NCRS membership a great regional judging experience ahead of the 2025 National Convention in Las Vegas.
So, Keith... Springfield, MO... On Route 66, the home of Bass Pro Shops and the adjacent Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium, caverns and a battlefield, and only 30 minutes from Branson and the lakes. SAVE THE DATE July 17-19, 2025. Hope to see you there!!!John- Top

Re: Has the Midwest been forgotten? No Regionals
A Regional Meet at Springfield would be great. This takes me back to one of my favorite meeting places at Joplin, Mo. many years ago. Always has been one of my favorite MCRS meets every year at Joplin. The Tulsa group along with the Missouri group are the best on the planet! Looking forward to Joan's leadership in Springfield!- Top

Re: Has the Midwest been forgotten? No Regionals
I live in Spfd and have chaired a Home Builder's Show in this venue for the past 25 yrs. The main hall is about 35,000 sf so it has plenty of display area for judging with an adjacent 2 story area which would be perfect for vendors and parts. I am not a member of the KC or STL Chapters but if I can be of any assistance, please reach out to me. I know this location and venue like the back of my hand including the pitfalls of move in and setup. I plan on having my 67 conv there for Flight judging.
