Re: The two 67 N03 cars

Keith, both the 67 tankers were small blocks, red car has repro trim tag and questionable VIN both cut out with ZBar. The Shriner 67 were all convertibles. One of those did get converted to a white/red interior L88 clone. There were no factory L88 tank cars in 67.

Roy any clue to as why the red car has a repro trim tag and questionable bin tag? Are we sure that car left the factory a NO3 car?

Keith, I believe it did, read the links Michael posted earlier.

There was a dispute between owners and things happen.

Michael, I recall the red/red L88 tanker on EBay and the controversy surrounding it. In my opinion and that of most people commenting at the time, it was a very nicely done clone. It did not sell and I have never heard or seen anything of it since.

Rick, Roy, Mike, indeed the car was advertised on eBay and if I recall correctly, it had a Buy It Now of $750K. I contacted the seller and he sent me a few pics of the car and frame with engine, but no tank photos. It was a very nice "looking" car and the consensus was it was indeed a clone. I was just curious if the car still existed or had been seen at any local events, OR, since it was obviously not a real one, perhaps the owner just put it away or maybe it's in someone's "private special collection". As for me, and my 67 tanker L-88 tribute, I NEVER attempted to present it as a real one, nor would I EVER. I built it to "scratch an L-88 tanker itch" I had.

True Rex, sometimes people just want to modify and build something they like and want, no harm, no foul as long as the honesty is there.

The story of the '67s is very well known as to the limited number of remaining tanks available to use in that model year for the C2 that was never supposed to be built. It is unfortunate someone at the beginning of that MY didn't order at least an L71 with the tank. I have heard of several people who tried, but the tanks were all gone.

I think between the GM data and our tanker registry work, it is pretty difficult to "find" a new one never seen before. But that hasn't stopped L88s, and especially ZL-1s from popping out of the woodwork from time to time......

Question on Guldstrand's L-88 LeMans car. Did it run with a larger tank somehow sourced or an aftermarket big tank?

Mike. Is there a tanker registry ? If so I would like to add my car , or see if it is already on it.

Just for thre fun of it, in late 1967 I looked and sat in at a '66 Big tank radio delete coupe @ Downtown Mitchell's Oldsmobile Dealer in Atlanta. Memory has it was a silver or light blue.
The Dealer had the car on their second-floor warehouse building. Bought a 67 blue 390 coupe instead. The NO RADIO turned me off on the '66.

I've had 2 tankers that were ordered without radios. It was actually more common than you think for people ordering tankers to not want a radio. Of course some were ordered for racing, which makes a radio irrelevant.
