The key words are "...having to spend...". In this case, I do not think it's necessary. As I've mentioned previously, I think that simple brazing or, even, a JB Weld repair would be satisfactory and durable. In addition, there would be virtually no risk of additional damage being caused by the repair, itself (i.e. failure of the repair to go as planned). For a repair like this, I feel the "least aggressive/invasive" repair methodology should be used.

I am reminded of a line of the physician's oath: "first, do no harm".
What Joe said is GOOD advice. Just grind the cracks & braze them. Make sure you heat the area around the crack with a propane torch. May not be pretty but no one will know but you its there & you will have a lot more money left in your pocket.

      Joseph,
Looks like a quality repair. Best of luck with the rest of the engine build.

        Thank you Leif.

A couple of pictures at the Lock and Stitch repair facility.

Picked it up last week and made the long drive home.

This week I loaded it back up and drove it to Burbank to start the machine work.
Maybe this time it will get done.

Whats interesting to me is that I must have called 5 or 6 engine builders/ machine shops and every one of those places (except Burbank) were not sure they could preserve the stamp pad.
Either they didn’t want to be bothered or ???

When I called initially and spoke to Dave, I had a bunch of questions and the last one was if the block needed to be decked, could he preserve the stamping. He said of course, he does it all the time and it’s not that big of a deal.

He says give him a couple of months and he will have all the machine work done and then my builder can start putting everything together.
