Re: 1967 BB Engine and front light harness

    Gary,

If you're staying with the standard ignition, the new engine harness is set up for that by default. There is no "TI wiring" through the firewall, per se. The stock Pink wire coming from the Ignition switch feed(IGN), used a U-Shaped right angle terminal to connect IGN to the ballast resistor as originally equipped for points ignition. If the car originally had TI, this terminal was cut off and was changed to a blade terminal(in a plastic housing) to feed the TI AMP/power circuits.

The stock engine harness had no TI provisions. TI required the IGN feed Pink wire terminal change to mate with the separate TI Harness.

So any new Engine/Forward harness will work without modifications. You'll just have to add that standard U-Shaped terminal to the IGN Pink feed, to attach to your ballast resistor. BTW, if you ever consider going back to TI, hopefully the existing ballast resistor for that dual point distributor is not mounted in the stock position.

As far as that one-wire Alternator goes?..... You'll have to either cut into your brand new harness to replicate what the prior "modifier guy" did, or revert back to a stock alternator and Voltage Regulator. I'm not going to opine on that, as it's your call.

Not sure why the previous owner converted to a one-wire alternator but if you stay with it, Lectric Limited has a one-wire conversion kit so that you don't have to butcher your new engine harness.

It's been years, but when I restored my wiring harnesses one choice was to have the original harness repaired. You might ask if that service is offered.

            Gary,

Ok, So you'll just have to swap the blade terminal at IGN Pink back to the U-terminal, which will connect to the ballast input. (Edit, or simply continue to use the jumper that is in use).

Since the ballast is over by the heater box now, you'll have to move it back over to the wiper area near the dimple. A good place to mount it(away from the dimple) may be at the upper bolt for the steering column firewall mount, if it'll reach. Like this BB '67 L71 that had TI but went with points and a 283 many years ago. If it won't reach you'll have to find another mount point. Clearly you don't want to drill a new hole at the dimple.

Your new engine harness will have a 12G Pink wire with U-terminal for the ballast output to the Coil+. At the Coil+ terminal, there will also be a 18G Pink tied to the same 12G Pink from the ballast output, on the same terminal, heading down to the Solenoid R terminal.

Other than relocating the ballast, your new harness should work out fine. Just take some photos of the existing harness routing paths and compare to the AIM for plastic ties and clips.
