Re: C2 ride height and rear transverse spring rebuild/replace question.

Thanks Lief. I appreciate you go laying on the floor to do that. I just tried and could get the strut measurement by the wheel no problem, but the differential was a bit of a challenge to get an accurate measurement with the exhaust in the way. I think I got within an 1/8" anyway and my D measurement was 2 3/16. So quite a bit lower than the book 3.69" (1.5" low about the same as the "K" measurement). I also looked at the spring end bolts and they do not appear to be standard (Thanks Ed.) and have a shank length of 7 1/4 and no cotter pin hole or cotter pin. I believe the proper shank length is 6 3/4". I believe my first step should be put the right hardware in the ends of the spring and see how it fits then. Was thinking of Dr Rebuild part # 7504207. Thanks for your help. Mark

Hey Mark. Thanks for the input. Just put a small magnetic level on one of my half shafts. The drivers side wheel side was about 1/4 bubble higher than the differential side. So, the half shaft at the wheel is higher than the differential side. Car was empty with about 3/4 tank gas. Thanks Mark

Thanks Ed. Just checked the length while I was under the car getting my "D" measurement. Yes, you are correct, The bolts are not standard and will probably be the first thing I change, not only for ride height, but for safety. Appreciate you pointing it out. Mark

Good day Patrick. Good question. Couple of reasons I thought it might be low. First, when I got a quick jack mini lift I had a hard time making the large quick jack rubber block fit between the lift and the frame jacking point. Second, I had the exhaust clamp on the front of the left muffler (I know not NCRS standard as should be no clamp there) hanging a little low and would bottom out over a bump. I think the car looks Ok as I am guessing the front is a low also. It was a toss-up which suspension I wanted to go through first. Thanks Mark

One of the issues is that reproduction/aftermarket springs will make the car sit too high.

I have seen owners chase the "my car sits too ___" problem like a dog chasing its tail. You can throw a LOT of money at it and gain nothing.
Tire size can affect it too, as can radial vs bias plys, i.e. the overall profile of the tire.
In the short term, the correct rear spring bolts and cushions are where I would start. As noted, if it were my car I'd hesitate to go much further.
None of these cars are easy to get a jack + block under. If you think that your C2 is tough try a C4 or later.

Hey Patric. I think the 7504212 kit is OEM and the 7504810 kit is a reproduction. I will try to call and confirm.

Patric. OEM kit (7504207)is sold out, so you are correct, 7504810 only available. Thanks Mark

                    Mark,

For about 2x the cost you can still find NOS examples of the bushing, washer and bolt rebuild kit on eBay. So, there is a choice between repro vs OEM.

Hey Gary. I have been looking and have seen only OEM cushions on ebay. If you have a go to or link for the OEM bushing, washer and bolt rebuild kit I would appreciate it. Thanks Mark
