    1970 L46 with NA9

Currently working on my new basket case L46. Although I have 2 other L46 Cars( 69 with 26k original miles and a 70 with 12k original miles) this one is a NA9 California emissions car with AC. It has the yellow emissions label, EVAP canister and the carb plate 3969837. I am currently searching for the correct 7040507 EV carb. I was wondering if anyone could share with me some pictures of your engine compartment with NA9 and AC. You can email me at atrrod@gmail.com
My google searches have come empty and I didn't notice any reference to the carb plate in the judging manual but I will continue to search.
    Thanks Adam

1970 L-46 with NA-9 did use the shield/gasket assembly of GM #3969837. Attached are photos of an NOS example [not for sale]. I believe that Dr. Rebuild offers reproductions of this.

      Joe-
Thanks for the reply. I have 2 of those and see some NOS ones on ebay. I was hoping to see some engine compartment pictures with that installed. I have yet to actually see that on a car.
      thanks

        Adam,
Do you have the TIM&JG for your 1970?

            Adam,

Although not original and not an L46, if you need them, I can dig up photos of my 49-state 1970 LS5 when it was fitted with the carburetor insulator and NA9 compatible Q-Jet (7040505 instead of 7040205). It basically looks like a 49-state configuration but with the shield under the carburetor, an added ported vacuum tube on the front of the carburetor for the NA9 canister, and a sealed fuel bowl vent at the front of the airhorn. I did this mod to help prevent percolation and have access to ported vacuum for tuning purposes.

What's nice is you'll find the NA9 version of the Q-Jet (7040507) to be less expensive than the 49-state variety (7040207).

Google found this. Note the sealed fuel bowl vent and extra NA9 vacuum port in the front of the carb. Unfortunately this does not show hose routing.

Thanks. if it's not too much trouble they might be helpful. I did see that the 507 is somewhat cheaper but still on the search for that.

Here's an NA9 Q-Jet (7040505) with insulator on a 49-state 1970 LS5. There's no canister connection and the vacuum advance line routing is not stock (no TCS) so this may not help you with hose routing.

IIRC there was a production dated 507 carb on ebay last week, price was reasonable.

I don't have any photos of engines with NA-9 installation. However, as far as the installation of this shield/gasket assembly, it's really quite simple. It installs on the manifold with the large, 5-sided "cut-out" on the right (passenger) side. Then, the carburetor mounts atop that. Very simple.

By the way, the reason I post photos of a part is not necessarily for the benefit of the original poster. In this case, you mentioned in the original post that you had the GM #3969837 so you obviously know what it looks like. However, posts here are usually viewed by a lot more than the original poster and those members may not know what a GM #3969837 is. So, for the benefit of those members I post photos. In fact, usually, the effort for me to access the part is far greater than the effort to provide a response.
