    Loose starter solenoid stud

The positive stud on my starter rotates 360 degrees. Are parts available OTC to repair this?

Delco used to offer a solenoid rebuild kit but it's been discontinued for many years.

However, you can still obtain a complete rebuild kit from Standard Motor Products under their part number SS408K. This includes a new cap, contact, and other parts.

In any event, you'll have to remove the starter then remove the solenoid, disassemble and inspect to determine what new parts are needed. While you're at it why not rebuild the starter, too. As long as the bushings are okay, it's a simple DIY job. The detailed procedures are in the COM, and parts like the shift lever and overrun clutch should be readily available.

Also, the various parts are available in other "brands", like BWD, and are most likely are the same SMP manufactured parts, so if your usual parts store doesn't carry Standard, they can probably cross reference the Standard part number to whatever brand they carry.

          Thanks gents,

I've ordered the kit Joe listed and I'll dive into the starter as well.

I saw a starter heat shield listed in the CSM. I don't remember removing this but it's been nearly 12 years.

          Was this standard on Corvettes?

Yes, solenoid heat shields were used for both big blocks and small blocks during your year model range. However, they were different for small blocks or big blocks.

              Thanks, Joe.

Might you have a stock picture of one? I need to search my bins for it and I'm seeing different ones for big blocks online.

Not the best resolution, but an image from one of the Corvette Parts suppliers:

As you can see, it is multi-faceted. Lots of angles.

Here is the big Block shield. Much different.
