c1 upper steering column bearing removal

How does one go about removing the upper steering column bearing on a C1?

The wire broke off mine and I need to replace it.

Jason, Use a wide flat tip screwdriver and using a hammer, tap the brass edge where it sits at the end of the tube, around it's entire perimeter.

Edit... tap it from back edge toward rear of car.

That is exactly correct. TOO EASY.

Good to hear from you Tom.

P.S. I've been thinking of you lately, honestly. I'm tinkering with a generator a buddy gave me. He's had it for about 50 years....really. It had 49 years worth or greasy dirt on it. It's 100% "chrome plated", everything. The end frames, the case, even the pulley. When I get time I'll put it all back together and test it.
I want to pass it on to a new owner....you, if you'd like it, it's yours.
P.P.S. Sorry for the mini-hijack Jason. Tom is our 53-62 Steering, suspension, fuel injection, and overall major contributor to anything on these early cars. It'd be fine to see him in here more often, sharing his vast knowledge with us all.

          A chrome plated generator???????????
I have never heard of such a thing! Could that have been a rare factory option? Such as a BB hood on a 67 SB car?
Oh ya, and I have never seen a totally chrome plated front cross member and suspension, or a chrome plated steering column, or rear axle assembly, or soft top frame. Nor much less, an airbox on a 56!

I always loved your 56 Tom. And I recall seeing that chrome generator in your engine bay pictures years ago.

Please visit us more often here Tom. It's good to know you're still helping the group.

P.S. See this separate new thread for more info and photos on the generator so I don't cloud Jason's thread up.

No worries Richard. You and Tom have helped me more than you could possibly know.
