Can I test a TI distributor magnetic pickup?

I found the one in the picture in a box of parts a friend gave me. Since it was in a correct Delco parts box and does not appear to have been installed, I am assuming is NOS with some shelf aging.

Is there a way to test this assembly?

    Thanks,

    Don

Check it for continuity. I don't recall the acceptable resistance range, but it should be listed in the '64 and '65 Corvette Shop Manual Supplements and subsequent Chassis Service Manuals.

I can tell you this item can get you to chase your tail. I had one that was fine until it got hot, much like a bad coil. Perhaps check continuity cold and hot would be the best way

I was able to find an article on diagnosing problems with the TI distributor on the T.I. Specialties website. The resistance specification in the article was 500-700 ohms. I get 593 ohms on the one I have.

Yes 593 ohms is well within spec. That's a rare and desirable NOS piece.

            Go get Powerball?
