Re: Another Carb Re-Stamp Question(s)
Thomas67 Tri-Power (L68) December build.
The photos are of the carbs on my car, front and rear are Oct dated (6O2). The center carb looks like an obvious re-stamp. I’ve been told by a reputable rebuilder, with high marks from other NCRS members, that they have seen the 692 stamp on other center carbs and this may have been done during the original assembly. The original number appears as if it might have been 6O4, also Oct, so why the re-stamp?
What is the acceptable date range in terms of month/weeks before the vehicle build date? ...
As to why a restamp, perhaps a life before (use) on a car that needed a carb with an earlier than "October" build date. Just guessing
As to date range - 3x2 was a 1967 option, with 1967 production beginning 1 September (Birthday Book) - so your December car is only 4 months away in any case. Expect most things get a range of 6 months before. Not that 6 months was typical - expect production typically was a few weeks earlier at most.
NCRS - Restorers Society - got to cut our members some slack (help) for finding part numbers with earlier than a car's production date. No slack - No cars to judge!
Example, engines didn't typically sit around somewhere for up to six months. But trying to find a block within a few days/week of your car's build date would be beyond difficult. 6 months so we have cars to judge.

Re: Another Carb Re-Stamp Question(s)
Thanks for the reply. Pretty much the answers I expected. These are on a high very recent scoring multi-year top-flighted car + many other awards. No notation on the scoring sheets about the dates or re-stamp, so I figured I was ok, but just a little surprised about that.
I have all the books, but still find it hard to determine the rules for deductions. For example, the car did not have the correct Delco fuel-pump, or even a Delco distributor cap, yet no deductions for either. Not intending to shoot myself in the foot, but instead just trying to improve the score if and when I decide to have Top-Flighted again.
Thanks again.67 427/400 Lynndale Blue Corvette https://online.flippingbook.com/view/750924569- Top
