    NOS Upper Diff Bracket Cushions

So I picked these up off fleabay. Seller had them as a pair though I know I only need one. Couple things struck me when I opened the box which was original with part number and pick tag with a date of 10283. I am aware NOS has often been around for a while so the general condition does not bother me. What I am curious about is.....

One appears to have been painted gray at some point. Why would these ever be painted period? And why gray instead of maybe black?

The other one has what I will call dimples around the interior circumference of one end of the "cylinder" sleeve. Why would that be? I examined a bunch of other purportedly NOS ones online and really could not find another one like that.

I do believe these are NOS based on other characteristics...but not sure i wanna keep them depending on folks thoughts on the above.
    Thanks.
