66 427/390 water pump pulley wobble

    Hello all,
On my 427/390 i have a wobble in my water pump pulley. The water pump has been recently rebuilt. As far as i know the pulley has never been damaged. I am wondering the best way to check for run out. Should i put a dial indicator on and check the shaft and/or the flange for run out? Is there a good way to check the pulley? And if it is the pulley can it be repaired or am i sol?

Thanks for your input and help.

    Mike

I think your first order of business is to separate the two components to see where the wobble is coming from. I'd remove the belts and pulley, inspect the pump flange face and the inside of the pulley for anything like a burr or schmoo of some sort. If you find anything questionable, use a file to smooth it off.

Use a dial indicator to see how true the water pump flange face runs.

If that checks out OK, it must be something to do with the pulley. Someone with a lathe should be able to mount it and check how the grooves rotate compared to the mounting hub.
