Correct finish for upper steering column bracket

So got my column and upper bracket out. I know the bracket is tucked up way out of sight but I am a purist so wondering what correct finish would be. Attached pic is after an Evaporust bath...and it was pretty rusty. To me....I see no signs of paint so was gonna do a clear matte to help stave off future rust. Anyone have any insights on the "correct" finish?
    Thanks,
    Keith

These were natural, unpainted, unplated, bare metal.
Look at using CRC SP350 ore SP400.

Thanks Gary. That CRC stuff looks pretty good. I do already have a can of clear matte so do you think CRC would be a better way to go?

Matt "Clear" leaves a film on the part. CRC SP350 will dry and look more natural. I use the SP400 on cast iron, more porous material.
With that being said, that part is tucked so far up and out of the way, nobody is going to see it without being a contortionist. You could probably paint it pink and nobody would know except you and me. Use what you have.

          Gary,
Love that response. I considered pink for a moment but think I will use the matte that I have. For a part not easily accessible to recoat that might be better as the CRC products state they perform for a couple years. But am probably splitting hairs. I do thank u for the CRC info and am gonna pick some up. Getting the 400 as only diff between the two per CRC website is 350 is indoor only and 400 is indoor outdoor. The 400 should be great for parts that are accessible and can be recoated when needed.

The 400 can leave a much thicker yellow-gold coating. It's much "closer" to Cosmolene, if you will. I rarely use it, and would recommend the 350 as Gary did.
