Ouch. I bought my first Vette and joined NCRS 24 days ago. In a couple weeks I'll be on my way to my first NCRS event of any kind in Frisco (not even a chapter event yet), and reading something like this strikes a sour note around something I'm excited about and looking forward to.

You (and Leif, and others) are of course entitled to your opinion based on your experiences, but did it need to be aired in a thread whose purpose is just to disseminate and discuss information about the Lone Star regional? Maybe some day I'll agree with you, but I'm on my NCRS honeymoon and I'm hoping it will be a happy experience.

It will be David, don't worry.. You need to get to know some of these guys to appreciate their sense of humor. I'm sure Mr. Donnally will make a point to see that you're having a great first judging experience at Frisco. Be on the lookout for him.

            It will be.
I predict that after its conclusion, when you reflect on your first NCRS event experience that you will remark to yourself that it was quite extraordinary. You're going to have a blast.

Guys in this thread all know each other and have been funning with each other for decades. These are all good guys with mucho NCRS experience. Any one of them will be pleased to help you with any questions or "where do I go now" stuff. Upon arrival, figuring out the process by a first-timer can be confusing. Just ask someone, if they can't answer your question, they will direct you to someone that can.

I"ll wander over to the 66s and introduce myself. I'll bring Kramden with me.

Texas Chapter Passport_091013.jpgOne tip on getting to Frisco from our area (and keeping in the spirit of fun, since Frisco always is, and making fun), since I am from New Mexico crossing the border into Texas can sometimes be tricky with a big trailer with "NCRS" stickers and Corvette logos on it and this year my precious cargo '78 Silver Anniversary Bowtie candidate loaded, so the Texas Chapter was kind enough to send me a passport in case any of the Texas Rangers stopped me to inquire about immigration status......I also carry a bag or two of our local Chimayo green chiles to bribe them.......but Colorado is a much more well known state, so I doubt you will need this, see you there.

                  Dave B. Welcome to NCRS.

Not only do they know each other, but some have a really warped sense of humor. Working on Corvettes of any generation will do that to you. They are all great guys. I hope Dave P. is able to connect Mark (Kramndon) with you. They both know how to welcome a newbie. Enjoy the meet and remember this is supposed to be fun. It is the people who make it the most fun. I'll miss y'all. The people I'll be with are no fun.

I agree wholeheartedly with Terry's comment. The Texas meet was always one of mine and Dick's favorite events. Sorry I won't be there. Ask Donnally where he got the nickname.

And I remember all those years at the awards dinner where Dick would look forward to and enjoy the extravagant death-by-chocolate desserts they served.

Reba, your reminding me of the time I visited my cousin in Hickory and we toured the Blue Ridge to eat at Shatleys. What a great time I had that weekend. Said goodbye to Dick and my cousin Buddy that weekend.

Kramden's comments are tongue in cheek.. When you meet him you will find he is a funny guy. You will also find the folks at the Lone Star Regional are good folks who will try to help you earn your award. Us Texas folks want everyone to enjoy the event. That said, look at this as a learning experience and if you have a problem do not by shy. Talk to your team leader or the meet judging chair. We are not here to make your life miserable. Don't let the nerves get you.

For members that do not know Mark, this does not read as funny. We need to be positive at all times to attract new members and get current members more involved. I was not happy to learn most judges are stupid. We need to be careful on our written words, some come across as not being funny. I have been talking to a newer member hauling his car 1900 miles to Frisco. I hope he does not see this post of Mark's.
