    Harmonic Balancer finish

Getting close to sending out my harmonic balancer to be restored. To be most correct my understanding would be to instruct the shop to return it primed and then I would paint it once on the engine as that was how it was done on the assembly line. My intake manifold and exhaust manifolds are not correct and will need replaced but that's years down the line....after which I would paint. I figure if I at least get the balancer primed it will reduce any rust formation. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

      Keith,

If you want to protect the unpainted surfaces from rust, you could coat the restored, bare metal balancer with a flat clear coat. Then, when it is installed on the engine, paint the engine and balancer as original. I agree with Mike on the prime coat.

Thanks Mike and Terry. Planning to send it to Damper Doctor. Will ask them to flat clear coat and if not I will just do it when it comes back. Great advice!

I agree with Mike, little or no paint on the back side similar to the back of a water pump.
