    1957 Starter Support

Hello, I know that this has been discussed before, however I have run into a problem. While installing missing lower ignition wire shields on a friend's 1957 283/250hp (fuel injected) engine with powerglide transmission I cannot get the starter front brace to mount to the block. The brace will not clear the lower shield. He supplied me with a new brace he purchased from one of the Corvette suppliers that is correct for the application, however it will not clear the lower shield. Were the 1957 automatic transmission cars originally fitted with this brace? Also, can someone recommend a vendor that cam supply the thin, black rubber hoses that attach the balance tubes on the fuel injection unit. As always, thank you for any and all help, John

Both the '56 (3721553) and the '57 (3742856) brace were 4 7/8 O.L. If brace does not clear you probably have a wrong part somewhere. Check AIM section 12 sheet 10 for a view of the 57 auto engine.

as Dave mentioned, another parts probably not configured properly. I'd guess its the boomerang. the 57 FI PG vets had the brace. the rubber balance tubes are on eBay occasionally. they are thin-walled. mike

Are you asking about the 3/8" air tubing which interconnects the nozzle blocks? That is properly known as "Idle Air Tubing". Or are you asking about the 1/2 diameter tube which passes in front of the unit, connecting the Fuel Meter to the air cleaner? That is the "Balance Tube".

Either way, PM me. I may have some tubing I can spare.
