Restoration of a C3 rear storage tray

There was a gentleman that would advertise in the Driveline that he restored the rear storage tray. He appears to be gone. Does anyone know of someone who restores these trays?

Is there an article in a back issue of the Restorer that I can follow if I have to restore it myself.

    Thanks

    Hi Richard.

I'm not aware of anyone who commercially restores these trays today, but other members may know someone who does.

On my 70 I restored the tray myself (and several others I had), I got the flocking material and adhesive from DonJer Products. I lightly sanded off what was left of the old flocking, applied the adhesive with a brush and generously applied the flocking fibers, let it dry for days, and then shook out the excess fibers.

I then with a brush applied a diluted Elmer's glue to the outside to strengthen the tray.

It came out and judged very well.

Others may have better ideas. Good luck.

Hi Richard. I have done some storage bin restorations in the past and I wrote/published a Technical Article for the NCRS Restorer many years ago. I'm not the guy that has advertised in the Driveline, however, I can do it. Not sure if I can find my article or not, but I'll look for it in my files.
If I find it, I'll send it on to you via email.

I am not familiar with C3 storage trays but.... if they are anything like a C2 tray I wrote a how to restoration article for C2 storage trays. It is in the Database of Restoration Documents in this forum, titled Storage Cover Restoration --- hope you find something in it that is of use to you.

Re: Restoration of a C3 rear storage tray

Are we talking about the rear compartment bin or the rear window tray? The window tray had 2 or 3 material/design changes from '68-'72 so different restoration techniques would be required for each.
