For a 64 - What is the distance between the Steering Column to Dash Bezel which is attached to the bottom of the instrument panel and the Turn Signal Housing - that is, the exposed length of the steering column tube? Thanks for the help.

Re: 64 Steering Column Tube measurement
I see a number of you (45) had looked at my post, but none responded. Just a follow-up on my research of this question - there apparently is no correct answer. I found a reference on page 111 of a book entitled Corvette: America's Sports Car/ Randy Leffingwell (1997) wherein this comment appeared on the 1963 - "The walnut grain plastic Sting Ray steering wheel was standard equipment. New to the Corvette was the ability to adjust it forward or backward a total of three inches to accommodate arms-and driving styles-of any proportion." It occurred to me that this adjustment had to do with a portion of the bottom of the steering shaft which was machined to resemble a D. That machined area of the shaft is about 3" long and was necessary to allow the bolt on the steering coupler to lock in the shaft, A reference in the AIM says the shaft must me inserted at least "half way into the coupler." Not easy to adjust, as one must loosen the coupler bolt, the clamp holding the column to the firewall bracket, and the U bolt holding the column to the clutch/brake bracket below the instrument panel. A doable thing, but takes a little work to move the steering wheel forward or backwards.- Top
