    Soft ray glass

    I need to replace a vent window glass on my 64. It came with tinted windows and was wondering if the new glass sold thru zip, corvette central and others would match the tint color of the original soft ray glass. Also would the printing on the new glass match or closely match the original glass. Thanks;

    Howard: Just replaced my P/S Vent window in my 66 Conv. this past Summer. Took out a Non-Soft Ray and replace it with the proper date
    code Soft-Ray. Picture below of the one I took out. (Not for sale) I doubt that the one you get from Zip or other parts stores will pass judging
    100%. I would try David Sokolowski who is in the "Parts For Sale" section in the "Driveline" He has originals for sale; has C2 inventory. Page 36 in the Nov/Dec.
    issue. JMHO>Larry P.S. If you do not know the Conv. and Coupe glass is different

      Added Info: Per the 66 Judging manual the LOF stamp on the Door glass can be observed in any
      position (Inside/Outside and even upside down) unlike the Windshield which is set by the DOT. Larry

        Thanks Larry;
        I was hoping someone had bought a new glass and share his thoughts on how it compares to an original. I took a chance and ordered one while Zip had their sale on this past weekend. Hopefully it will be close in color to the other glass in my car.

          Howard: Like to see a picture of the one when you receive. Would be a nice comparison. Thanks>Larry

            Will take pictures of glass and LOF logo when it arrives. Will try to upload pics if I can. May need some help with that.

              directions for attaching photos can be found under the heading "How do I post a photo" in the FAQs. The FAQs tab is found in the smallest tool bar above at the top of every page.. If you need help, you have my email, just drop a note.

              How do I post a Photo?

              Photos can be posted by clicking on the image in the editor screen..
              This will bring up a box where you can browse on your computer for the image you wish to upload, or you can upload an image from a URL. URL is a link directly to the photo from a location on the internet.
              There are limits to the size and number of photos allowed to be posted. Full size camera images would soon fill the server’s storage space.
              Typical camera photos can be from 5 to 15 megabytes in size. The limit for posting here is 300 kilobytes. If the photo is larger than that the server will resize it to 800px x 600 px. A typical photo I tested from my camera was 12.4 meg in size. 2544 X 1696 pixels. That is 35 inches by 23.5 inches in size. That means that you would have to scroll your screen from top to bottom and from side to side to see the entire picture.
              In order to have a little control over the optimization rather than depend on the server software to automatically do it I optimized the photo so I could upload it to the forum. After optimization this picture is 800 X 533 pixels and reduced to 256 colors. After optimization it is only 57 kb in size and works well.

                Thanks, I will if I can't figure it out.

                  Re: Soft ray glass

                  The original is on the right (door Glass) reproduction on the left (vent glass) both dated XC.

                  The reproduction glass has a bit more green tint. Same result when compared to the rear glass.

                  I'm waiting on a reply from Auto City Glass.

                    Pretty obvious difference as shown. I wonder how they would show outside
                    in the sunlight?? Larry

                      Larry, don't know.

                      The answer I got was different manufacturers add different levels of tint. Not sure they answered my question.

                      They also said in a email "We are not the manufacturer of the glass we sell. Our glass comes from overseas."

                      But, it's the only game in town, so that is what I will install as my vents.
