    Re: Engine ID Question

    Patrick,

Alvin Colvin's Corvette by the Numbers page 109 references Block #3970014 "could be a mystery engine". Am paraphrasing:
No documentation that Flint or Tonawanda assembled engines with this block. Tonawanda casting plant cast these blocks. There is documentation published which points to the possibility that some late 1972 Corvettes came with this block.

This is the only notation of Tonawanda small blocks being used in Corvettes that were possibly assembled at Flint that I could find.

Interesting. Learn something new every day.

      Colvin's books are not perfect.

FYI, my 72 is one of the late ones with an 014 Tonawanda small block.

        Patrick,

Agree about Corvette books not being perfect.

Interesting that your '72 has the 014 Tonawanda block. That's awesome proof!

Thanks again for sharing the info.

          Re: Engine ID Question

For either Flint or Tonawanda, is there an F or T or something cast into the block indicating where it was poured?

            Re: Engine ID Question

            Owen,

C1 Tonawanda blocks use a 2 digit year cast date code example = A157whereas Flint uses a singe cast date year code example = A17.

Flint cast blocks have an oil plug on the passenger side right above the water pump and the driver's side rear cast surface is different.
