    1983 Corvette Wheels

The wheels on the 1983 Corvette are unique. They are of a design I have not seen on any other car. They are 15" wheels. I know the 1984 came with 16". When the car was first on display at the National Corvette Museum it sported the 16" wheels that looked similar to the stock wheel on the 1984 production car. My question is this; was the 1983 designed with the 15" and if so, are these the only ones in existence? I'd also like to know when the 16" were removed and the 15" installed.
I hope someone can supply the answers. Thanks, Roger

      Roger,
Not only are your wheels unique...so is your car. To the best of my knowledge, there were never any '83 models released to the public.

Roger never said he had a 1983 Corvette...

There was a history of the 1983 Corvette that lives at the museum, written up a few (several?) years ago. I believe it was in one of the now-defunct Corvette magazines. If you can find that article it might help answer the question regarding the wheels currently on the 1983 display Corvette.

As I recall there were 5 1983's made. This is per a Chevy exec who was there. He has the original 1983 AIM.

Goodyear kind of jumped the gun with the announcement of the 1983 Corvette tire. This ashtray came with a technical write up of the new tire but I can't put my hands on it right now. If it turns up, I'll post it.

I thought even a few more than that.

NCM has several articles and videos on the 83 development and history. This is one I found that links to the NCM.

Yes, I believe the 1983 at the NCM is the only surviving example. Part of the body of another one hangs (or, at least used to hang) over one of the entrance doors at the Corvette Assembly Plant.
