    63 Splash shield

Can anyone confirm if this is correct for an early 63 (December 62) LH inner fender splash shield? The Judging manual calls out 3 staples, and this one has holes for 6. It also has the half round cutout where the seal goes, which is not called out in the manual. Zip products shows early 63 shield is straight with no cut. Thanks for your time!

Todd, That shield is not correct for an early 63. There should be no circular cut out. For your info, we have seen as few as 3 staples and as many as 5 staples on that shield. Also, there should be no center hole on the flange for a side pipe cover retainer since there were no side pipes in 1963.

My Mid-Feb ‘63 has straight side and 4 staples on the LH shield. In Zip’s part description they indicate this is correct til April of ‘63. Don’t know what time frame the judging guide states for the change in the LH shield or why the change was made. My copy of the ‘63 AIM has two different part numbers for the shields. 3797275 (LH) and 3797276 (RH).

Tom, The part changed once A/C was available. Because the battery tray moved to the LH side, the shield needed the cut out to clear the battery tray brace.

Thanks so much for all the detail, guys! Looks like I will be buying another one that is actually for a 63.

              Joe,

Are you referring to the hole in the middle of the flange between the two end nuts shown in this picture of the RH side I have as well? This may be incorrect for a December 62 build as well?

Yes, That center hole is for the side pipe cover retaining bolt. That would not be there on a 63 or 64 car.
