I am restoring my front grill and the Aim states leading edge of frame is chrome with interior light grey. It appears that the entire main fram is chrome. Would this be the case. There are 19 vertical posts that would have what you would consider a leading edge. Not sure what parts of the grill to paint and what parts to polish.

The forward facing surfaces, both vertical and horizontal bars, as well as the total surround surface (facing forward) are chrome. The "flat" surfaces are painted dull aluminum. Restoration involves a LOT of masking of all the "chrome surfaces". Mask as well as you can. If there is some paint on the chrome areas you can use some laquer thinner on "Q" tips for removal.

I am in the process of restoring grill and have found no evidence of paint or primer on my original grill. Had painter who is painting car and he agrees with me that there is no evidence of paint anywhere. I see posts on subject and read in Technical Service manual about paint on internal surfaces and leading edges being chrome. Is it possible that there were grills unpainted? I am not questioning everyone's advice and read the same thing in the TS manual. Any ideas?- Top
