That Was The Year That Was: 1956

For anyone that may be interested... I scanned a 1974 Corvette News article, covering the 1956 Corvette.

Jack, I always appreciate your contributions. Having restored VIN 3241, it is one of those cars I wish I had back.

THANX, Garry... I've alwayz loved the look of a 1956-57, especially with the hardtop installed.

the above photo displays a shade of red paint that is far superior to what actually got shot on the 56-7 orange-red mixture. mike

I typically spend many hours scanning/sizing/editing/fixing all the pages of the PDF that I post. This job was similar, but I actually did NOT 'boost' the red colors on this car... perhaps Corvette News originally did so.
(NOTE: When you reduce a large image, it typically getz darker... thus, the smaller image posted.)

I find it most interesting that SOOOOOOOOOO many people claim that the 57 model is what saved the Corvette.
              That is incorrect!
The 56 model is what saved the Corvette, and of course, the 57 solidified it--------------------and the rest is history.
OH, I FORGOT, a lot of people do not study their history. Thus, for those who don't study it, go back and take a GOOD look at what happened with the 56.
In 55, only 700 were built and the Corvette was doomed for the chopping block. And over 3400 were built in 56-----------and away it went.

Thanks for the pic Jack! I need to go through my CN's again. Right you are Tom the '56 SR's and 2X4 cars got the pulses going, and I have a '57. I knew a farmer who bought a new '56 sedan with a 3 speed and 2X4's. A sleeper. I agree Mike! I never could understand why Chev didn't use '56-'57 Matador Red and white instead of Venetian Red and Shoreline Beige. Back in the 80's I drove my Polo White and "red" interior '57 to work one day. One of the ladies there advised me my car was "off white" with an orange interior. Technically correct.
                Thanks guys! Steve
