    283 220 hp pcv

Question, is correct PCV cv590c or cv609c.

And is there a cross reference for a non nos replacement.

I can't answer your question directly, but if you have an original '61 283/220 that was sold new in California it would had to have the RPO that included a PCV system. I cannot find the number in my old NCRS Spec Guide, but 242 is stuck in my head. Check the AIM, and here's a thread that might help. I just found it with a Web search - "RPO 242".

The original PCV valve for your application was GM #5646366, aka AC CV-276. It was discontinued in March, 1966 and replaced by GM #6421787, aka AC 695C. The latter was discontinued without supercession in May, 1981. I know of no current aftermarket valve for the application but it is possible that one exists.

The CV-590C was used on 1963 Corvettes and is the same general configuration as the above-referenced (i.e. threaded on one end and a nipple on the other end) but I have no idea if it would be a correct functional replacement. GM strongly implies it would not (since it was never supercessive to the original). The CV-609C is a different configuration (differing size nipples on either end) .

Thanks guys. As I can find NOS both 590C and 609C on Ebay but I prefer the 590C threaded connection to back of carburetor I'll use 590C.

Although not exactly correct at least it's an original factory component with proper function.

Why don't you get this valve on eBay? This is the valve that replaced the original valve as I mentioned in my last post. Plus, it's reasonably priced. Don't pay any attention to the fact that it mentions some non-Chevrolet applications. It's the part number that counts and it has a part number that GM says is right for you.

            Doug,

Or if you’re dead set on the original valve, then I think this is the original part for 3x the cost of what Joe recommended:

            eBay item number:405017378624

Thanks. Good information I was not aware of.

I finally dug these out. The CV 276 is the original valve. The CV 695C is the replacement which is also now long-since discontinued as I previously described. [none for sale]
