    L88 open chamber pistons

I have a set of NOS pistons that are stamped GM 3959110 on the dome and cast TRW B and 203.98 on the underside. The GM box is GR.0.629 and #3959107. Is this the correct box for these guys? And, I also assume these are standard bore L88 and L89 pistons for open chamber aluminum heads. Can anyone verify this? Joe Lucia?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Ed,

My parts book show those to be .030 OS for '69 427 HD and '69 427 HD w/aluminum cyl case.

So yes in my eyes, I would say they are configured for second design L-88 usage and ZL-1.

Ed, the L-89 used the closed chamber pistons, same as the L-71.

It'd be a RARE find coming up with a set of NOS pistons that are NOMINAL in size! About the only folks who bought/used these were the engine manufacturers for use in newly built motors...

I remember working once on a block that'd had all eight cylinders sleeved and you should have seen the stares and heard the questions asked when we shopped for a set of NOMINAL bore pistons for it!!!

                Wayne,

I measured these and they are standard size, not .030 OS. In your parts book were you referencing the part number on the box 3959107(which I'm not sure is the correct box for this piston) or the 3959110 number which is stamped in the piston dome? Thanks for your help.

Dick, you are correct. I guess this piston would only be used in 69 L88 and ZL1 and maybe, but I'm not sure, that they would have been use in 71 LS6 engines. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Ed

                        Re: L88 open chamber pistons

Ed, it was used in the second design L/88 which sporadically started appearing about March '69? and by about June became the only L/88.

The LS-6 pistons were a lower compression, 9.25-1
