    C1 and C2 Bolt Head Markings

    Hi all,

    Does anyone know the meanings of the different bolt heads used during the C1 and C2 years....ie..WB, M, TR, UR, RSW..etc? Any help is appreciated. Just trying to gain a bit more knowledge than I had yesterday.

    Thanks,
    Craig W.

    Craig, Those are all different suppliers. GM had 3 plus suppliers for hardware for sure. So those are the logos!
    Its like so split lock washers on FI's. Some guys say they should be black. Some say they should be zincad, Some say they should be rusty. Different suppliers that's all.
    Where we run into problems here on a lot of our NCRS cars is we over restore. Like making all the head bolts match. All the intake bolts match and in reality it just didn't happen. John D.

            MF Dobbins has a section on fastener headmarks in his '63-67 Fact Book. For example WB= Wales Beech. In general, I believe there's an official book that documents the individual headmarks of fastener manufacturers around the world published by their trade association....

                Craig------

                Somewhere around here I've got a reference that decodes bolt head markings. The operative word is "somewhere", however.

                Anyway, these are the ones that I recall:

                WB= Wales-Beech

                M= Michigan Screw and Bolt

                C= Cuyahoaga(?) Nut and Bolt

                TR= Towne-Robinson

                RBW= Russell, Birdsall, and Ward

                "E" or "EL"= ELCO Industries

                    Joe L, I have the book in front of me. Huge zerox of it. Not real easy to use though.
                    I don't know what the C is as there are a lot of C logos. Chance, A.B. Company, C0-Op Screw, etc. of NJ
                    Anyhow it doesn't matter much as most of those old suppliers are history anyhow.
                    Interesting though is the AP bolt. Still listed. All-Power Mfg. Com of CA. Also All-Pro Fastener of CA. Seems like a lot of nuts in CA. heeee. John

                        I believe Tim Gilmore (Texas NCRS Membership chairman) wrote a tech article in the Restorer a couple of years ago covering the subject very well. You might check your old copies...not sure which issue.
                        Also, Richard Fortier (former owner of Paragon and now advertising in the Driveline 810-750-1472) is very knowledgable on all Corvette fasteners.
