71 454 Block Drain Plugs

    71 454 Block Drain Plugs

    Can someone tell me what the drain plug on each side of the block should look like as far as any special markings, shape, etc. This is the plug just directly behind and below the rear lower motor mount bolt hole.

      I have a '71 Chevelle LS5 and those plugs were just standard hex head with no special markings.

              Thanks Steve, does your chevelle have the motor mount heat sheild? Ifso, do you happen to have a picture of it or a description? I found one of a 350 SS car and am wondering if it is the same.

                      Hi Sheldon. I do not have the heat shield, actually I don't even have the Chevelle , so I won't be of any help there. Steve

                                              Here is a shot of the shield on my 71 BB if it helps. I can get you a better picture if you still need it as the engine is now out of the car.

                                                  Sheldon: There was an excellent article describing the big block heat shield even including a template to make your own in the Restorer a few years back
