I've been searching for an intake manifold for more than a year to no avail. I need one with casting number 3997770 and preferably a date code of Gxx2 (or Fxx2). Any suggestions for continuing my search?

I found two sources with intakes of this number for sale just by typing "3997770 intake" into Google, one in Wisconsin and one in the Northwest.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

I'll save you some time-
intakes with that casting number and a G or F casting month don't exist (as far as I can tell). The 333882 casting, introduced for both L48 and L82 engines in 1974 MY has been observed with casting dates G and F and found installed as original factory equipment on late '73 MY cars.
It's unlikely that GM would make both casting numbers concurrently. I believe that a judging manual revision has been sent to Marvin on this subject.- Top

It looks to me that you want a F or G 1972 intake for an early bulid 1973. In that time period many L-48's came with the L-82 intake. I do not have my books at hand but as I recall the part number is 3997771. E-mail me off the board as I know where you may find one. As others have said in late 73 model year the 74 intake was installed but as I read your question I think you have an early 73.

Re: '73 L48 Intake Manifold
Lyle,
I will email you offline. You are correct; I have a very early '73 production car - # 208. I should have been more clear in my original post since I was aware of the 399770/399771 confusion and the fact that L82's and L48's both came with 399771 at some point in the production year. I guess I was assuming incorrectly that the early production cars got the 399770 intakes.
Another fact about this car that I neglected to mention is that it carried the broadcast code for a California emissions car. I can't find where this made any difference - i.e. it was a designation only. Even the emissions label was the same as a standard production car.
Both you and Mike have provided me with good information. It looks like I may a bit more research to do.
Thanx,

Re: '73 L48 Intake Manifold
Now that I re-read your post, you did mention a 1972 casting date, which would make sense for an early production number. My car is at the opposite end of the run, trim tag date is July 3rd 1973. I spent a year or two looking for an appropriate manifold before I figured things out.- Top

The '73 model year appears to have been an intake manifold crap-shoot. I've been looking for a correct manifold for the past year. I've come close at a few swap meets - but no cigar.'69 Blue/Blue L36 Vert w/ 4-Spd
