    c3 interior removal

Is there a good reference for removing the center console, left dash pad, etc. from a 1969? The right pad and gauge cluster came out fairly easily, but I'm having trouble ascertaining the attachment points for the emergency brake cover and center console. I've looked in the AIM and the workshop manual, but can't find anything of much use. I've searched the archives and haven't found anything either.

    Thanks for any help.

    Bill,

It is in the AIM and Archives, but...

the e-brake console has to first have the bolt removed that is accessed from behind. You can find it by removing the cardboard bin above your jack and then feeling the bulkhead under the center "glove compartment."

Once the bolt is removed, you continue to work forward. Side screws on e-brake console, then remove that. Front extensions on center console as well as central shifter/heater console go next. Then you can access the two nuts on the bottom of your center gauge cluster that hold it to the center console. After that, you just keep on going...

You have the best reference -- the AIM -- you have to remember it was written for the assemblers to use -- not restorers, and not dis-assemblers. There were a page or two at each work station. The entire manual existed only at the quality inspectors stations and clerical locations in the assembly plant and in Michigan at the engineering centers. One can not leaf through the pages and find anything useful for dis-assembly. One has to spend some time with each page.

Check UPC 1, Sheet E2 for the left dash pad fasteners. Remember if you are trying to pull the left dash toward you, the tachometer and speedometer cables will need to be disconnected. I think the CSM (Chassis Service Manual) covers those. One will also have to lower the steering column, which also should be covered in the CSM.

See UPC 1, Sheet E3 & E5 for the center console fasteners. Sheet E3 shows the rear fastener which is the one that is most often missed by those who have not done this before.
