Duke what oil would you use in an 08? Would you stick with Mobil 1 or would you use another brand of synthetic ? I am curious, I am not ready for an oil change yet. I do see a big differance in price in the synthetics ,is the price differance worth it? thanks in advance Tom

Re: Duke oil question ??
If you're talking about a '08 Corvette I would use the oil recommended by GM and required for maintaining the warranty. I believe GM has a specific specification that goes beyond SM and Mobil 1 meets this spec. There are probably others that meet the GM spec (assuming they have gone to the effort to run the various tests to achieve GM certification), but since I don't own a late model Corvette I haven't looked in to this thoroughly.
As far as interval is concerned I would follow GM's recommendation to change when the oil monitor gets down to about 10 percent or one year, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. Depending on your driving environment 10 percent remaining life typically occurs in the range of 8000-10,000 miles.
Changing the oil in modern Corvettes every 3000 miles as some do is a waste of time and money.
If you drive the car the typical average of 12-15.000 miles for daily driven cars then the added cost of Mobil 1 is offset to some degree by the less frequent required change intervals. If the car is just for occasional use and has low mileage accumulation, you still need to change the oil once a year, regardless of mileage to maintain the warranty.
As I always say, use SM oils for modern engines (or follow the manufacturer's recommendation if it goes beyond SM) and CJ-4 for vintage engines.

Re: Duke oil question ??
I use Mobil 1 and ACDelco filters. I don't put enough miles on my 2006 to worry about the Oil Monitor OR mileage interval...I just change it every year between Christmas and New Years. Further, with one annual change, saving a few pennies on oil and filters is a non-issue for me. Reasons for using Mobil 1 and ACDelco?:
(1) It IS the factory fill as Joe Lucia says, but I'm sure that Mobil's marketing pricing has more to do with GM's selecting Mobil 1 than it's superiority to other mineral and synthetic oils available. On the other hand, if GM is comfortable seeing the cars go out to an abusing public with 5 year/100K drivetrain warranties, having Mobil 1 and a ACDelco filter on the engine...that's good enough for me.
(2) From my work experience, Mobil has been found to make superior industrial lubricants for a long time...My hope is that some of that experience slopped over onto the automotive equivalent products. If you're thinking of using one of those small specialty compounders whose websites say they INVENTED synthetic oil...I would urge you to forget the hype; they're using base stocks they buy from Mobil and others that REALLY invented synthetic oils.
When it comes to my C6's motor oil, "dinero es no objectivo"...well, almost. LowBuck Strategy: Buy a Mobil 1 six pack as cheap as you can find it for your first oil change...save the bottles and keep them capped and clean. Then, for the second oil change, buy TWO five quart jugs of Mobil 1 from Walmart (about $22 each now).
Pour one 5qt jug into your Corvette, then get out your one quart bottles you saved from the first change...Divide the second 5qt jug up into five of the quart bottles, using meticulous discipline to avoid contamination. Pour whatever portion of a one quart bottle that's required into your Vette (1/2 for base model, all of it for Z51). Continue buying cheap 5 quart jugs at Walmart, and reusing your quart bottles.
Edit: One carton of six ACDelco PF48 filters @ $4.52 each plus shipping is going to be about $32-$33 from GMPartsHouse.com...Delivered to your door. The PF48 fits 2007 up Corvettes, 2006 and up Z06s, and the new 3.6L DOHC VVT V6 in many applications, and probably other engine applications as well.- Top

Re: Duke oil question ??
Yes I was talking about my 08 Corvette. I just wanted some opinions from others to see waht they do. I am planning on staying with the Mobil 1 and I probably will use a Mobil 1 filter also. I have had the car 2 1/2 months and only have around 350 miles on it, so it will be a yearly oil change for me! thanks for the input! Tom- Top
