    Carb numbers

Could someone please tell me what these numbers on my Carter AFB carbs mean? #6-177B #1779 (this one has a soft copper tag #40336)
#6-1305. There's a couple Holly's, a Motorcraft, and an unmarked except for date 10-15-63. Can someone identify those if I find some numbers on them?
    I really appreciate the help.

    Re: Carb numbers

Well, the afb, if a Corvette unit will have a set of numbers stamped on the front facing area of the carburetor mounting boss on the passengers side of the car. The other numbers are casting numbers which are harder to ID. A picture of the throttle lever side and the choke side would also help get into the ballpark. Variations in AFB's used in non-Chevrolet apps include everything from choke configuration and throttle lever differences to location of fuel inlet. Too many to guess without the numbers off the front pad.

      Thanks Bill for the reply....
I misread one of the numbers...the two marked #6-1779 also have these numbers on them..0-1565. (These are identical carbs.)
The one with 6-1305 has 0-1227 on it. One of these I think might have come out of my Corvette, but it has a 3 barrel Holly on it right now.
Is this of any help or do I need to take pictures?

        Re: Carb numbers

The numbers you are looking at are casting numbers for the individual components of the carburetor. Based on these all I can tell you is that they do not correspond to the castings used on the '62 Corvette. (In the Judging Guide) the '62 AFB uses castings 6-1518 for the air horn, and 0-1481 for the main body. that's about as far as I can go with the info provided.

          Thank you Bill,
For now, that is really all I need to know....that none of those came out of my Corvette.
Probably will keep one or two that I like and sell the others....can't think of any reason to have 7 carbs. (Although did discover recently that even with a whole basement full of car stuff, I don't have enough tools.) NEVER thought I would say THAT.
          Cheers, Sandy
