    66- L36 Stamp Pad opinions from Judges

    This is my own 1966 L-36, a one owner car for 38yrs, which I now own. What are your thoughts as to the stamp pad, what looks right or what looks concerning.............judges and stamp pad experts pls. I'm no Al Grenning and would like NCRS professional opinions............

    I'm not a judge, but the broach marks look original to me.

      That's about as good as it gets! Almost too good... You could remove the orange paint down in the letters.

        On the C2 registry your car is listed as

        "L-36 born from factory and original to this car. Verified by NCRS Master level judge."

        It does look to good, maybe it's just the best example of broach marks I've seen, ser# 6123134 has a similar look the 390's pad is unique.

          If you know it's original why are you asking? TRUST WHAT YOU KNOW. They should have explained there concerns to you.

            Re: 66- L36 Stamp Pad opinions from Judges

            Members: I had wanted to get knowledgable pad experts opinion on my pad before sharing the rest of the history of the car.

            Here is the reason I posted my pad:

            I bought this car from the org owner in 2004 with 39.939 org miles. Elderly gentlemen had a stroke and owner it all his life from Denver, CO. I have warranty book/POP, MSO, ORG CO Title, Luby Chev dealer invoice, etc, etc. Car had 37K miles in the mid 80"s and sat in his garage up until I bought it. I had a corvette guy in the hobby inspect the car and confirmed its originality. I cleaned it up, detailed it as per the TIM judging guide, and took it to the NW NCRS Regional in Sept/07. It scored 97.7% . The judges loved the originality in all areas, however when they got to the stamp pad one of the two engine judges had concerns about the pad. I was in shock, given that everyone, including both my expert mechanics stated this motor had never been out of the car. The judges would not elaborate on why they had concerns but one of them went away and got their library photo's of similiar pads from this time frame and then hesitantly verified it as correct. It still bothers me today as to why they felt it may not have been the org TO factory engine and stamp pad. This is why I posted this message.......................Just looking for other opinions from people who know best..........fellow members/judges.

              I was not questioning the car or your concerns. I had the same thing happen to me years ago at BG with my 66 425 HP. It was a original car I bought from the original owner. I was making a comment about the judges that want you to think they are the know all expert's. They go to the judging school & read the NCRS manual. Please do not question your car & engine. I was at a Al Greening seminar & he said that a lot of wanta be experts judges do not have a clue. Please trust what you know not what some people say. I have been there. This is one thing that upsets me about NCRS. Why are they always revising the judging manual. It's starting to get silly.

                I have a '66 L36 built about 3k units before (IM suffix), and it looks great to me to. Dunno what looked suspect...

                  I am not claiming to be an expert but the "5"s are slightly different - which may raise question. I assume that is not unusual to may 2 stamps of the same digit that are slightly different??

                      Yes, I understand that. Just offering an observation on the posted picture of an original pad.

                        I agree with Bob and others why the judge took extra time with the pad.

                          Keith;

                          I have an original 66 427/390....your pad looks like the "real deal' to me, as Al Grenning is wont to say....
