57 Sill Step Plate Location

What is the correct position of the step plate p.n. 3727549?
The A.I.M. shows the plate positioned at the front of the sill, although the drawing is not very definative. It also shows the step plate under the sill plate which makes sense(I think).
Pictures I have found show it as in the A.I.M. and up to 1/4 inch back from the front edge.
The JM does confirm the presence of the plate in general, not good enough to locate the plate.
Any help will be appreciated.

I measured the mounting holes on mine. The forward outer hole is about 3" to 3 1/8" inboard of the inner step of the door sill opening and about 1.5" back from the forward edge of the step plate surface. The dimensions vary a little from side to side on the 3" dimension, but it looks like that would be a good average. The outer edge should be parallel to the sill and will go under the sill plate. Hope this helps.

Also the black wooden spacer under the sill is tapered and must go in the right direction

Roy, I do have a set of the old black wood spacers and I have installed the drivers side sill plate . The taper of the spacer sort of fits the sill plate. I will see which end fits forward later.
Right now in So. Ohio we are getting dumped on with snow and I don't feel like walking out to the garage.
