Did the actual code on the key knockouts have any significance related to the car itself. I see some were numeric and some alphanumeric.

Re: C3 1968 Key Question
Assigned by happenchance. There were only a specified number of combinations for key coding (I'm not very knowledgeable about keying) and, I believe, they were assigned at random. Maybe someone with more expertise will post a more educated response.

1968 keys; key codes were unique to that year
Jack,
Although the keys codes for any year Corvette aren't linked to a particular car, the key codes used for '68 are unique to that year. In '68 the keys used the C and D keyway with the small head (bow) and the key codes ranged from 0N00 to 9N99 and 0P00 to 9P99 for the C keyway key and 0R00 to 9R99 and 0T00 to 9T99 for the D keyway key. Those codes, with N, P, R and T in the second position, were not used for any other year between 1967 and 1985. My records don't go past 1985, so I don't know about more recent years. And, of course, the C and D keyway keys for 72, 76, and 82 were the large head keys, not the small head keys like used in 67 and 68. So, in short, a small head C/D keyway key with N, P, R or T in the second position must be a 1968 key.
