    What COLOR primer?

Tom, if you leave it in primer, I would go for BowTie if it's been off the road since 73.

I don't know how the factory delivered the "primer" cars, but technically, it looks like to me either color would work. By the way, what IS the color of this car anyway?
The '73-74 manual REALLY gets it right and specifies 'Urethane bumper cars delivered in primer are believed to to have been shipped with silver painted bumpers and grey primer on the rest of the vehicle. All other aspects.......... were installed as if the vehicle was painted normally. The vehicle was a fully street legal Corvette finished in primer.'

The inference is 1) the gray is considered to be primer 2) a car in still in red oxide is not yet finished.

Hey, are we being a*al retentive or what?

Well, there you go...the General intended "finished" to mean after the purchaser put color on it. Having rubber bumpers could lead you into OCD.

Are you saying it is still in factory primer? That would be a neat car to see on the judging field.

The question was "Anybody ever judge a primer car?" And my answer was directed to the question, not what the Judging Reference Guide says. I am fully aware of it's requirement and was simply trying to get the judges' feelings as they actually proceeded through the judging process on a primered car. There, my defense is complete.

Here's a fair to poor photo of the original red (as little as there was) coming off my 71. I think you can see the 2 colors of the primer and sealer. Next time, I'll remember to push the body outside before I take the photo for more light and contrast. Oh, that's right, the next time is going to be in my next life!

PS: First I had the picture too large and couldn't load it, now it's too small. I'm way dumber than I need to be, I've been playing with this since 3:00.

wanted a black car, he was going to have the dealer paint it black ,but never did.
if i got the car judged NCRS what should i do , leave it primer,or paint it black ??
                  Hello Tom,
I had seen photos of the car with original owner at delivery. It was painted in red oxide primer. It did not have the light gray primer sprayed. The gray was used to be sanded before the final top coat of color.
That car has the window sticker to prove the delivery in primer. The question is what info stamped on the trim tag? What is SPEC or PRIME ?
The car to be NCRS judged in red oxide primer. If you had painted the car any other color would be a deduction.

Sounds like there's either two ways that the car could have been delivered, or the manuals are wrong.

I saw a 1965 or 1966 big block no paint code car judged for bloomington gold in 1994 or 1995 and that car was painted in a red oxide primer. It was very unique to say the least and there was always a crowd around it looking at the trim tag.
