Need Source for Harrison Radiator end Tanks ..

    Hey All ...

Seems I need new end tanks for my car...
Mine are having some integrity issues - little pin holes have shown up.

I had the original core replaced with a Dewitt's restoration core - VERY nice, but they do not carry the tanks ---

    Info:
    27.5", 454 4spd with A/C.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

Bill I have had limited luck scrounging the radiator shops for tanks. I am fortunate to have a recycler that will let me go thru his radiators before he ships them to the great scrapyard in the sky. There are no reproductions available at this time

      Dick,

I'm pretty close to puting in a Dewitt aluminum "direct fit".

Just don't know how bad I will get nailed at NCRS when I go back to get the 97% top flight. The radiator looks exactly like the original Harrison, the end tanks they tig on are pretty darn close, but if you close enough it is obvious it is aluminum.

      Such a dilema -

You will fool some of the judges with it. It is a very good reproduction. We installed one on our '72 a couple of years ago

          Honestly -

I would rather try and fix my orginals tanks - but
removing that radiator is a day long job. I do not want to put it all back together and 3 months later anthor hole spring up.

          That would just kill me.

Bill, in an earlier life I owned a radiator shop. My repair men taught me how to repair them. If your tanks have cracks, the best way is to make a copper patch, clean the inside of the tank in the area that is cracked, and silver solder the repair patch on. I did a set of LS 6 tanks about a year ago. It took me most of eight hours to make the patches, solder the cracks on the outside, and then dress the external repairs down where they did not show.

Keep this in mind; the DeWitt's direct fit aluminum radiator for your application has a significantly higher heat rejection capacity than ANY radiator ever originally installed in ANY 1953-2008 Corvette. Plus, as you mention, its configuration is very similar to the original. In my opinion, the ONLY way to go. I have two NOS GM #3019190 copper brass radiators and 2 NOS GM #3007436 aluminum radiators [none for sale]. However, for my "ZL-1" project I didn't use any of them. I bought the DeWitts Direct Fit aluminum.
